I was wondering if there might be any plans to develop a "Clip Studio Paint to Spine Exporter" like the "Photoshop to Spine exporter?" This would be a life saver to all of us who mainly use CSP  !

Hello! we asked them but unfortunately they only allow the creation of filter plugin and only raster layers would be editable through their SDK, besides, they said they don't guarantee the SDK working outside Japan, nor support, so it's impossible for us to develop one at the moment.

Try asking also them to allow this, maybe if they see there's more demand they might decide to do something. (: I like CSP too!

I totally agree that a CSP exporter would be fantastic. For many (but not all) styles, it's a good choice of illustration software and saves a lot of time, and is much more affordable compared to a CC subscription.

To summarize the current situation:
1. The latest Clip Studio Paint doesn't have any scripting API, like jsx for Photoshop.
2. We did contact them. They gave us the rest of the info:
3. They only have a plugin API, but it only functions through a single selected layer and isn't able to do stuff like export or write to disk.
4. Their SDK is Japanese and CELSYS (the company) doesn't provide support of the SDK in English. Clip Studio Paint JP has also been a bit ahead compared to the international versions, hence not being able to guarantee certain things.

In short: we can't right now. But this may change in future Clip Studio Paint versions.

If you are interested in this feature, let them know so they know people actually need it.
You can email them CELSYS User Support <tech @ celsys.co.jp>
or contact them through their contact page https://www.clipstudio.net/en/contact
or through their CLIP STUDIO ASK page.

Note that their support staff is Japanese but they'll be able to understand some good English. Just avoid overly idiomatic and flowery language, I guess.

Just to add, the workaround currently available is to intermediately save your Clip Studio Paint file as a PSD, and then export through Photoshop using the Photoshop script.

Darn! I just tried out Clip.. it's a great alternative to Photo$hop ... but without the Spine conversion tool , the purchase priority drops down a peg. :tear:

agree.

csp is cheap and powerful for most drawing scenarios.

If Krita export script is as good as photoshop one, I think I will unsubscribe photoshop too.

This enhancement issue is relevant:
Import full frame PNG files as attachments · #476 · EsotericSoftware/spine-editor
If we can support bringing full frame images into Spine, then it will likely be easy to export from CSP and other image editing tools and still have all the power of the Photoshop script. This would be great because I also feel that Photoshop is a bit of a pig in many ways. :wounded:

Exactly. We all need to make a statement and move away from PS and all Adobe subscription products :sucks:

@Pharan

Sorry for resurrecting this thread.

But I'm going to email CELSYS per your feature requests, what exactly should we be writing?

I'm not a programmer

Also is it possible to use this pipeline? Clip Paint Save PSD ~> Krita (use export to Spine script)

Thanks!

We need the ability to write a plugin that can export layers as whitespace stripped PNGs, as well as write some JSON data that describes the position of the layers. In addition to a description like that, they could look at the Spine Photoshop script to see exactly what it does.

I wrote a message to them a year ago. IMO, they just don't want to spend resources on this matter.
IndieDoroid さんが書きました:Also is it possible to use this pipeline? Clip Paint Save PSD ~> Krita (use export to Spine script)
As I could remember, Krita has problem reading PSD clipping mask correctly. If you want to go this indirect route, there is a better chance using Affinity Photo/Designer but its script seems broken. At least the last time I tried it, doesn't work.

Another issue is that, when you "save as" PSD in CSP and you forget to save back to CLIP format then keep updating the illustration, you lose some CSP specific file format features after closed the CSP app. The behavior is a little different from PS that when you save as other format, it still think the file has unsaved changes and remind you to save the PSD format version.

I also tried to coded a standalone PSD to Spine Export app specifically for use with CSP using some 3rd party PSD SDK sometimes ago but just found that the PSD output from CSP is a little different than normal PSD. The app can't open it natively unless I open and re-save it in PS. Its very sad for the CSP situation.
