Deforming Mesh with Animated Bones?

I'm not sure what words to use to explain what I'm trying to do,

but I want to be able for my mesh to move with two different sets of bones?

Like, wearing a skirt, and the legs move the skirt.

Just wondering what to search to learn some skills to help me do this,

or any advice on how to get started, or what to think about?

I think you might find very interesting this series of videos, especially this one:

If you open the video description, you'll find chapters that explain and show how to rig each piece of clothing in detail. In the above video, there's a section dedicated to long dresses that shows a setup similar to yours, and the long dress continues also in the next video. As well as the downloadable project that you can open and test on your own.

In my first job as Spine rigger/animator, I was asked to animate two characters, one had a long dress, another a cape, and me and the other animator working with me did the mistake of using direct deformations instead of attaching the parts to bones, making something that is actually easy (once you know how to do) a neverending hell of corrections. Hence the name! 😃
