Problem statement

Describe: The project showed me an error window when I opened it
"Sorry, an error occurred while reading the project file"
Is there any way to fix the file?

Worked with the project as usual. When I added a new picture to the project, it was not displayed. I decided to restart the spine. But now the whole project was broken. In a panic I reinstalled spine completely, but nothing helped. Later I read about backups, but most likely they were deleted after reinstalling spine

Ahh damn, I'm really sorry about that. 🙁 🙁

Reinstalling should not delete your backups, but uninstalling does because it removes all the Spine files, including user files like backups and settings. I think we can do better though: we'll improve the uninstaller to ask if you want to also remove settings and backup files. That way 1) users may realize that there are backups, and 2) uninstalling will never delete your backups unless you really want it to.

Maybe we could also "delete" to the recycle bin on Windows.

Unfortunately it is very unlikely. The file is probably damaged or incomplete, which makes recovery impossible. We can still take a look and try to recover it, but the Google drive link doesn't give access to the file. I've requested access.

Unfortunately there is no data in the file that can be salvaged. Something has overwritten or otherwise corrupted the file.

When a project is saved, Spine writes the file elsewhere. When that finishes successfully, Spine removes the old file and moves the new one to it's place. That way a crash during saving is unlikely to corrupt the project file. Other disasters can happen though, such as power loss at just the wrong time, bad RAM, bad storage device, malicious software, and other terrible things.

I'm sorry there is no way to recover the file. 🙁
