1) Strange. If the mouse is moved off the button/etc that caused the tooltip to show, it should hide the tooltip. The "exit" event that happens when the mouse moves off of a UI widget is quite fundamental for the app to work. I'm not able to reproduce it on OS X, how do you get it to happen?
2) If the mouse is over the tree it should scroll the tree. If over the editor area, it zooms that. Wonder if this is related to #1. Maybe you need to use your touchpad with one finger in the editor area, then use two finger scroll. You can also hold ctrl/command and right click drag up/down to zoom.
3) Press escape to stop gif animations.
