Copying keys
I am having trouble copying keys for a complex character that includes bones, mesh deforms, animated Path curves.
In the Dopesheet filter i choose everything but some of the values do not copy or dont copy correctly.
What is the easiest way to do something like this?
Thanks for your help
Are you trying to copy everything on a new animation, a new skeleton, inside the same animation or how? Depending on exactly what you want to copy it may or may not be possible to do it (e.g. you can't copy the deformations of a mesh onto another mesh if they aren't identical in the number of vertexes etc.)
inside the same animation. Just with many keyed values - bones, mesh deformations, animated curves etc.
What is the fastest way to copy ALL the values from one key to another
Ok, that's an easy one! Just:
- press the spacebar to deselect everything, this way the dopesheet will be complete and won't just show a portion of the keyframes
- select one or more keyframes just from the first row
(this one)
- copy the keyframe with
ctrl+c
- paste it where you need with
ctrl+v
!
note that only the keyframes present on the frame you select will be copied. So if what you selected is a frame where your bone is moving between two keyframes, it won't be saved.
To keyframe everything you can press ctrl+L
(but use it carefully! too many keyframes will make the file unnecessarely huge, but if that happens, you can clean up the animation.)
Thank you!
To copy an exact pose, even if it's between keys, you could: deselect (assuming Lock Dopesheet if off), ctrl + shift + L
for Key Dopesheet (keys all timelines that already have a key), then select the white key in the first row for the current frame, ctrl + C
to copy, ctrl + Z
to Undo the Key Dopesheet, go to another frame, ctrl + V
to paste.
